========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

The lights that glowed from the insides of the many buildings of Andalusst clashed with the darkness of the late hour, trying desperately to chase away the shadows and imaginary beasts that lurked around in the night. Much of the city was calm, approaching the time where all would be silent as the Pokemon of the area would fall asleep... Or wake up, depending on the type.

Two figures stood...well, floated, for one of them, outside the door of one of the larger buildings in the city, where warm light splashed out onto the street. The sign was lit up from the glow inside, well painted in fancy lettering. Café Obscurité... One figure cracked a smile to himself. The restaurant and café was one of the most well-known places in the whole city, and often attracted a crowd every day. Rumors whispered around the city mentioned that reservations to get into such an establishment were needed months in advance to even hope to snag a table, and the prices certainly made it difficult for the lower rungs of society to get through the doors to dine inside. Yet, this was the place they were to meet...

The floating figure stayed in the shadows, gazing curiously up at the lit sign of the café. Such an expensive place, one she never even thought of attempting to get in to. Hell, she couldn't even afford to breathe the air inside of that place! Still, tonight her and her partner would be meeting with the representative in here. It was such short notice, too. How could they possible pull it off? A grin spread across her face. "So Tyr, whatcha think this'll set us back?" she cooed, a mischevious look in her eyes.

"Oh, I'd say 'bout a couple hundred, between the two 'f us," Tyr remarked with his own smirk. "Now, let's not keep him waitin'." He stepped completely into the light, red-violet skin glistened under the warmth of golds and yellows. The door was the difficult part. "Hikari, could ya get it open? Kinda high fer me t' open it." Sheesh, maybe all the four-legged Pokemon who came here had special workers for this, but one would think the restaurant would be more considerate with doors for the vertically challenged!

Hikari winced as she was asked to open the door. "But I don't wanna put my mouth on that," she said. She looked down at her 'vertically challenged' friend silently before sighing. "You owe me big for this," she said. She bit the door handle and pulled as hard as she could, grunting. She could slip through the cracks of the door, but her more solid friend couldn't.

"Yea, yea. I'll make it up t' ya the moment I can stand on two legs, 'k? Not all 'f us can faze through walls like ya can." He responded as he stepped inside. Hikari glared after him. Oh yes he would make it up to her! Tyr paused near the entrance as he got a look around. Well... Wow. The lighting in here was still pretty dim, even for the late hour, but it held a level of flair, elegance, and mystery. An odd, slightly disturbing combination... Secretive... He liked it. How fitting it seemed for the representative of the Hunter's Guild to pick this place. Probably wasn't just some coincidence...

Hikari had her tongue stuck out of her mouth, trying to get the nasty taste of door handle off her tongue as she floated into the café after the Nidoran♂. She continued to glare at Tyr silently, the piercing gaze he seemed oblivious to, or chose to ignore as he took in their fancy surroundings. His claws tapped quietly against the cool floors as he got a look around the place. His focus shifted, however, to the Pokémon manning the front desk, whose eyes followed him. A flash of recognition shone for a second in the stranger's eye and Tyr watched as he stepped around the desk to meet the two. Hikari froze as she saw the other Pokemon, and quickly pulled her tongue back in as she suddenly felt self conscious. Tyr hardly seemed fazed, in fact, he was pleased. They were expected, it seemed. Good. He flashed a smile back at Hikari before he followed the Pokémon towards the back. Reassured by his smile, Hikari followed behind him, a smile on her face.

The duo were led towards a table near the back of the restaurant, in a corner that was dimly-lit, even by the café's standards. None of the other tables around the area were occupied by even a lone Pokémon, perhaps chased away from the added darkness, or out of secrecy for the exchange about to happen. The sole source of light for the small table there came from two small candles placed in its center. The dim lighting did outline the figure of another already sat before the table. A Furret sat with his chair leaned back a bit, nearly touching the wall behind him. He wore a sly smile on his face, and wore a blue newsboy cap on top of his head, slightly raised. It was of little question in Tyr's mind who this was. He had to be the Hunters representative... He seemed out-of-place here, but looks had a tendency to be deceiving, after all...

"Hey, pull up a seat. Order your favorites; this one's on the guild's checkbook," The sly Furret greeted as the duo approached the table, beckoning them over with a small wave. The Pokémon who was running the front desk turned and left the two there to take the seats set up before the table. Tyr didn't need any more of an invitation to come over, he climbed into one of the chairs, sparing only a quick glance back at Hikari. Hikari bobbed about with excitment as she was invited to tale a seat, quickly hovering to just above one of the chairs. Free food? This was too good to be true! "Thanks," she said quickly, looking around for a menu.

As though aware of her excitement to dine, an Empoleon waiter approached the table, menus in his flippers. Silently, he passed them out to each of them. One was immediately pushed back to him by the Furret. "The usual," He remarked almost dismissively. The waiter looked like he wanted to say something, but chose not to at the last moment, opting to instead roll his eyes and sigh softly.

Hikari nudged her menu open with her head and tongue, hungry eyes scanning the many fancy dishes, completely ignoring their costly price tags. Just looking at the long list of food made her hungry! She noticed her tongue was still hanging out and she quickly pulled it back in, sparing a rather embarrassed glance up at Tyr and the Furret. The Furret said nothing, but seemed to smirk in amusement at her. Tyr, however, was more preoccupied with opening his own menu, his head lowered as he used his horn to flip open the menu. He only did a quick scan of the meals offered before he looked up.

"I'd like the Wiki and Micle Berry Quiche, please. Oh, and some Fresh Water for a drink," He spoke with carefree, polite grin on his face. The Empoleon nodded and glanced at Hikari silently waiting for her order. Hikari soon nudged her menu closed. "I'll take the Pecha and Mago Berry Flambé with a Lemonade!" she beamed, giving the Empoleon her best smile. "...Please," she added quickly. She bit the menu to give it to the waiter. She hung there somewhat awkwardly now that there was an extra weight.

The waiter nodded once more and took the menu from her mouth without a word. If the fact that she used her mouth to pick it up bothered him at all, he didn't show it. He picked put Tyr's menu as well and turned to leave. Before he left, though, he made sure to shoot a final annoyed glare in the Furret's direction. The Normal-type was completely unfazed, and only shrugged once the Empoleon was gone. "No sense of humor," He stated simply as he slumped back in his chair a bit, and gazed out without focus on either of the potential recruits before him. Tyr nodded, and his gaze followed after their waiter as he left. Definitely seemed stuck-up.

Silence dragged on for a few seconds, much to Tyr's discomfort. He made a move to speak when the Furret spoke, his eyes flickering back towards the two of them, but his gaze remained unfocused. "The name's Cuffin, but I'm sure you've already heard of me. No need for introductions on your part, I already know who ya are," The sly smirk returned to his features as he began to tap his paws together. Tyr smirked back a bit, impressed. What did he know about him, and how did he learn? "Really? Nice t' hear our names are out there. Introductions take too long." Like that, his carefree attitude emerged, a bit of honesty towards the one he truly needed to persuade. Hikari glanced between the two silently, confused, and a bit worried. How did this guy know her...? She didn't even know who she was...

Cuffin raised a bit of a brow again at Tyr's remark, his smirk widening a bit as he slowed his paws. "That so? Glad to hear it then.... So..." He leaned back a bit in his chair once again. "I work for this kid, Sundance. He made me promise to ask ya a few things before I go off on my own thing. He'll get his feathers in a bunch if I don't, so humor me." The two nodded at this, without much of a word. Tyr did sigh a bit, though. Ugh, procedures? Hopefully these wouldn't take too long... Still, gave him a chance to really work his magic with his responses. Cuffin nodded, and began with the required questions in a bit of a dramatic tone. "First things first: why do you wanna join the Hunters?" He punctuated this with a noticeable eye roll.

"Well, ya seem more interesting than the other two guilds. More history, yet, more secretive....sneaky. We like that, the two 'f us. Heck, no different from wha' I do already. This Guild... It jus' fits us, intuitively... And, well, ya all aren't a bunch 'f nerds, like those Researchers." Tyr smirked at the last part and winked a bit, his eyes gleaming mischievously. He did speak the truth, though; he had been doing his own sneaking around the city since he first showed up, learning about the inhabitants and figuring out new ways to deceive and talk his way through all sorts of scenarios. A Guild that handles the citizens of the city... It screamed home for the socialite. "And, we...enjoy learning about others..." Hikari added with her own smirk.

Cuffin listened quietly, interested by what they had to say. The question must not be all that horrible to the Furret, Tyr noted. "All right. Respectable, yeah. Down the list..." Apparently the list wasn't just figurative, as the scruffy Furret picked up a piece of paper that had been on the table's surface for a while. He scarcely gave it a second glance as he crumpled the sheet into a small ball and tossed it over his shoulder dismissively, barely missing a passing waiter. "What can you bring to the Hunters? What skills or talents can you utilize for us?" The mocking, dramatic tone, persisted as Cuffin lightly folded his arms across his chest, observing the two.

"I have a knack for readin' people, their faces, their emotions, social cues... Anythin', really... Also can talk my way outta trouble most 'f the time, blend int' the crowds... It'd be easier t' show ya, though..." Tyr glanced about the café for a bit until his ruby eyes landed on a passing customer, some random Bunnelby. He smirked, and a peculiar green aura glowed around his eyes slightly. "Hey, tough guy. Bet yer a killer out there, aren't ya? Got some real strong ears there... I bet yer th' best digger 'round this whole city, right?" The Bunnelby had that dazed, starstruck look on his face, a haughty smirk accompanied it as the insincere compliments sang in his head. He nodded and crossed his short arms in front of him, chest puffed out. "Yea, I am! Heck, you're right! Bet no one here can beat me in digging!" The Bunnelby rambled on to himself as he continued on, even as he crashed into a nearby table. Tyr wore a large smirk on his face as he turned back in his chair to face Cuffin, front paws crossed on top of each other on top of the table. Hook, line, and sinker...

Hikari snickered a bit as the Bunnelby snapped out of his self-worship, clearly dazed and rubbing his sore chest with a paw, trying to figure out why he where he was and what had just occurred. He shot a bit of a glare in their general direction before he stomped off, grumbling. Now it was her turn. "Well, where this one doesn't consider that the Bunnelby over there pro'lly has a couple of Gurrdurr thugs out back to protect him," she said, earning her a glare and a scowl from Tyr, "I do stuff that WON'T get me caught. Like this." She glanced at the Bunnelby and a slight glimmer shown in her eyes. Suddenly dark power coursed through him, doing nothing. The Bunnelby didn't even notice. Hikari paused silently, blinking. She quickly tried to cover her mistake. "See? I won't get caught like that," she said, grinning nervously.

That amused, non-serious smirk remained on Cuffin's face, and it was hard to tell if he had been impressed by either of their skills and performances or not, even for Tyr. "Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. I guess we'll get to see some of that soon enough. Don't get me wrong; your answer don't mean you're gonna be taken or thrown out. This is basically... formalities..." Cuffin trailed off for a bit thoughtfully, blue eyes flickering up as he considered this. "...Yeah, formalities. I think that's the word he used. Whatever that means." Another dismissive shrug was offered with his last statement.

Quickly, Cuffin's smirk was replaced with an excited smile. He leaned forward on his chair, bringing all four legs back down until he was nearly leaning completely across the table. He lowered his voice to almost a whisper."This one's more interestin', to the little guy's credit. Are you against doin' things that the Royal Guard ain't gonna like if they catch ya doin' em?"

"...Heh... Illegal things, huh?" Tyr asked quietly, as his smirk seemed to hold darker intentions behind a relatively calm exterior. "... 'Course not, right, Hikari?" Hikari nodded with a more confident smirk. "Absolutely no qualms against it." "And we'll be sure not t' get caught doin' anything." Tyr added with a serious nod. "Otherwise, why'd we be here in the first place?"

Cuffin's ears flicked forward at their acceptance towards the possibility of committing crime when needed with almost a bit of excitement. "All right, all right. It ain't me, just sayin'. I know well enough that if yer here, then you an' I are prolly already aware of the answer to that question. I just needed somethin' to tell the kid." With that, the scruffy Furret let out a long, relieved sigh and relaxed back in his chair a bit, but didn't quite lean back yet. Instead, he allowed his arms to dangle at the sides of his chair. "Whew. All right, enough of that stuff. The kid is on the right track, but sometimes it seems like the royals crammed a stick really far up there, if ya know what I mean. All these "formalities" and junk... anyway, the rest is straight from me." Tyr's eyes gleamed a bit curiously at this, and he shifted a bit in his seat to move closer. Just what else did he want to know?

Cuffin glanced around a bit, as if making sure none of the other diners or waiters were within earshot to overhear what he was about to say. Once he was satisfied that no one would overhear him, he leaned back forward to start at the two... Granted, his gaze was still unfocused, as it had been throughout the whole conversation. Perhaps it was just his thing, unless... The thought running through Tyr's head was quickly cut off, though, when Cuffin spoke quietly once more, his tone oddly sincere, and his expression serious, "Listen. You already know the basic stuff, so I'm gonna level with ya. Truth is, the Hunters are all about knowin' things about everybody else. Yer gonna learn secrets that nobody else will know. It'll change the way you look at this whole city, and yer prolly not gonna like what you see, but you'll always know exactly what's goin' on under the coat of sugar. I wouldn't blame ya if you'd rather go hang with a Guild that doesn't deal in the worst of what Andalusst can offer."

Tyr let out a bit of a scoff at this, surprised. He honestly hadn't expected this, but he wasn't about to be swayed away so easily. "No way! No other Guild can ev'r get me such a close look in on ev'rything here. I'm all fer knowin' other's intentions and whatnot, good or not. Can ya blame me?" He spoke quickly as he held his ground, his stubborn streak quickly replacing the laid-back demeanor that, for the most part, dominated the conversation. Hikari tried to reign in her teammate now. "I'm willing to go as deep as I have to. It's not like I haven't already seen the sour side of this candy-coated town," Hikari said. She looked rather excited now, though she kept her voice low.

Cuffin's serious, near stoic expression melted back into his usual smirk at their excitement and passion over joining. "Is that so? Well... to be honest, I would've blamed ya, actually," He teased lightly, an unfocused glance shot over at the fiery Tyr. "Who doesn't wanna know everything about everybody? Life is all about keepin' yer options as open as possible 'til the right moment." "Exactly!" Tyr agreed, struggling to keep his voice at a controlled volume.

As though aware of the conversation, or perhaps of Tyr's rising passion, the Empoleon waiter returned to the table, his flippers laden with dishes. He hesitated with Cuffin's dish, and Tyr figured he was considering spitting on the Furret's meal. With his unfocused gaze, it was unlikely that he would notice... But, there was a lingering suspicion that, even if he wanted to, the waiter wouldn't bring himself to do it. His hunch was right, too. The Empoleon waiter silently placed the platters of silver onto the table and walked away without a second glance. Hikari's mouth watered again, and she struggled to keep her tongue inside her mouth. Likewise, Tyr eyed his food hungrily, but glanced up. The unfocused gaze of Cuffin did not rest on the food, but on them still. Tyr lightly nudged Hikari before she could begin to devour her meal, and gestured to the Furret.

"Before we eat..." Cuffin spoke up as he reached down and grabbed the nearest glass. He lifted it up and held it across the table. Tyr glanced at his glass and mentally cursed himself for his lack of hands. Hikari carefully lifted up the edge of her glass in her mouth and likewise held it out. "Let's toast, to the new recruits," Cuffin proposed as he leaned in. He added with a whisper and a bright smirk, "...That's you, just so ya know."
